Scriabin op. 2 no. 1: How to play??
on: January 31, 2010, 05:44:41 PM
Hi guys!!

This is my first post in this forum.
I am going to begin with Scriabin's etude op. 2 no. 1. At some points I am wondering how you are supposed to play the notes.
For example bar 1 in the right Hand. Is it really necessary to sustain the notes whose flags go downwards? When you use the pedal, you don't hear no difference anyway.
At the 6th bar in the left hand it is very hard to hold the d# while playing the 8th line above. Do you just play this note an 8th long?
And the bars 5 and 6 after the key change to tripple b (21st and 22nd bar overall, mezzo forte), do you hold the eb, ebb and db?
By the way i hand width is about a ninth.

Thank you!

This is a beautiful piece! I started out by making the melody----it is all over the place and you must voice it. You also must mark for finger substitutions----to keep the line legato---even with the pedal.  Also record yourself---to check for voicing and pedal----and range of your dynamics--are they projecting. Have fun with this great piece----it's worth the work on all the details.
