Schimmel piano -- prices?`
on: March 18, 2010, 03:09:20 AM
I'm looking at a Schimmel piano.  The ad says it's a 6'10'' which I guess would make it a model 208?  Anyway the ad says it's about 20 years old.  What would you say is a fair price?  They're asking 10K.

Schimmel aren't bad but they're not always the best-built to stand up to heavy use, so the fairness of that price depends a lot on how the piano's been treated. If it's been in a school or conservatoire, for instance, that may be about 9k too much. If in a home or somewhere with quite light use, I dare say it's well worth that.

I played it today and it was dreadful.  Just awful.  She said it had light use.  I don't know -- could it be that the piano just needed work?

I don't know - I have a Schimmel and it's built like a truck. It's only five years old, but I doubt that they are that much different than 20 yrs. ago. Maybe this one's been left out in the garage?
