Spanish guitar transcriptions to piano?

Hi everyone,

I am doing some research into extant guitar repertoire that has been transcribed to piano and was wondering if you could all help.  I know some of you have done transcriptions and there are some well known examples that have been recorded.  I'm looking for scores and/or recordings that you know of that might be able to help.  This is for a research paper and perhaps a larger project in the future so your help is greatly appreciated!

Having listened to this wonderful playing, I would love to hear other tremolo guitar pieces in piano arrangements. Barrios's Una Limosna por el amo de Dios could sound very effective, or Campanas del Alba by Sainz de la Maza. Can we think of any others?

Re. the original question, The Villa Lobos Preludes which I heard Joanna McGregor play in a recorded concert, seemed a worthwhile project. She played No1  & at least one other.

I don't think the piano can ever quite match the guitar's tremolo when the latter is played by a true master guitarist...it's more seamless, has a wider range of dynamics (in its own limited range!) and he can apply more tone colors.

Your post sent me back to Koji Attwood's playing of Recuerdos & I think it has all the subtleties of a master guitarist. The phrasing, rubato & dynamics are amazing to behold. Which guitar version do you particularly like? I pulled up two at random & found them less involving.(Bream, Romero.)
Asturias works much better on guitar, than in its original piano scoring & the harp version also hits problems, so it can come down to instrument or performer preference.

^ I actually intensely dislike the piece--maybe because it is so cliched. However, if I have to listen to it, I like Jorge Caballero's version.

He also plays a pretty mind-blowing transcription of Bach's Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue! (It's nearly impossible on the guitar, especially the Fugue...)

Villa Lobos Choros no.1 arr for piano. Played by Sonia Rubinsky. Vol 5 of the Naxos Villa Lobos series.
Vol. 7 yields a complete recording of the 5 Preludes by the same pianist...a worthwhile listen & highly original in style.

I propose a twist to this discussion.  For all the solo guitar works you have heard, what are some of your favorites that you wish were transcribed for piano but have not yet been transcribed?  Looking for works that might benefit from the unique sound production, range, and dynamics the piano offers.

Ponce's Folia de Espana, Theme and Variations with Fugue would make an interesting piece.
It could then be directly compared with Rachmaninoff's Corelli Variations, since both use the same theme.
Maybe Walton's 5 Bagatelles might work, since they have been orchestrated.
Domeniconi's Koyunbaba is a great guitar piece. Would it work for piano?
