Yamaha DGX-640 vs. Suzuki DP-77
on: September 28, 2010, 09:31:11 PM
I am thinking about buying a digital piano TODAY and I am wondering if I should buy the Yamaha DGX-640 or the Suzuki DP-77 ($910/$1,000 respectively).  I am soliciting many comments, suggestions, reviews from all of you as to which one is a better buy.  Both digital pianos come with a furniture bench, but the Yamaha DGX-640 comes with  3 years limited warranty and a "survival kit" versus 1 year for the Suzuki DP-77 and no other extras.

Can anyone please tell me which is a better digital piano for the buck?  I would really appreciate any comments from all.

I don't know how to play a piano and it's been a dream of mine to learn and play since I was a kid and today, I will fulfill that dream.  Please help me to decide which is a better piano even if price is not a factor.  Thanks.......

No question, the Yamaha is the better product regardless of price. In the case of all digital pianos, they all sound much better with GOOD (Bose) earphones.  I went for the bare keyboard and sunk some serious bucks into the amps.

Thanks so much for the reply.  I actually bought the Yamaha DGX-640C early this morning at www.kraftmusic.com before reading your reply.  I have researched about this digital piano extensively and I have read great reviews on this except for its' mediocre amplifier (6W x 2).  I bought the "Complete Home Bundle" for $909.95 and it's shipped today and indicating that the estimate delivery date is Oct. 5, 2010.  I can't wait to receive it and start learning how to play piano; which has been a dream of mine since I was a kid.  I will fulfill that dream on Oct. 5!!!!!

I am thinking of buying a DGX-640, and since there are at least two users around, it would be fine with more info. The most important thing for me is the keyboard action and the velocity response. I have never played a real piano, and I would like something with somewhat lighter touch. There is no MIDI on this keyboard, but there should be a USB connection to computer or an audio interface. I am going to use good PC speakers on the phone output on the audio interface, so that is not a problem.  Comments?!

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
