Kawai MP10 - reliability ?
on: February 26, 2011, 04:16:05 PM
Hi,
After a lot of research I decided to get a Kawai MP10 for my other, "silent piano". Everything I read was positive, it has the latest third generation action, wooden keys, etc, etc. Since the closest dealer is an hour away, and they never seem to have them in stock, I took a chance and bought it online without trying one out first - there is a 30 day full credit return policy.
So, it arrives, and when I plug it in nothing happens - it is a bad unit. I can get my money back, or can get it replaced. After 30 days, I can only get it "repaired", I cannot return it. Since this is a new model, my concern is that if the unit goes bad after 30 days, I will spend quite some time nursing it back to health. The keys feel decent - nothing like my real piano, but a lot better than my Yamaha P-85.
Anyone else have reliability problems with their MP10 ?
How well does Kawai back up their products ?
Any info would be much appreciated,
Andy

Andy,
Try using a different power adapter. Sometimes those go bad before the keyboard does....

Hi Jimbo,
Thanks for the advice - I thought I was clever plugging a lamp into the socket to make sure the socket was ok, but did not think of this - and I call myself a tech person :-)
Unfortunately, that did not work. For the MP10, there is just a power cord that plugs directly in, and another one did not work either.
Thanks,
Andy

Andy,
If you got a lemon I am sorry. Here's where I do most of my shopping and they ship faster than 10 days.....

Andy. There has been some problems with new Kawais. The best thing would probably be to return it, and get a new one.
This is the first time I have heard of your problem, but according to my information Kawai DPs are reliable when you get one that is in perfect condition. Be sure to check that carefully if you get a new one. I have had a Kawai MP6 for about a month, and so far everything works perfectly. The place to go for info on DPs, and especially Kawai, is Pianoworld. There are lots of very satisfied users of MP10 and MP6 there, even if some of them, like you, had problems with the first instrument they got. Kawai seems to be reliable. The problem is usually with dealers and shippers.
If and when you should get a new MP10, I have every reason to believe you will be satisfied with it.

Thanks jimbo and casaet.
I got mine through Sweetwater, they have been very good - free shipping and I received mine in 4 days. They also have free tech support and a 2 year warranty, all free
They have no problem with me replacing or returning (though I do need to pay for the shipping)
