I had started to learn Chinese, just some very basic things. I was in particular interested in studying Chinese characters, their connections etc. I still remember that forget for example is a combination of die and heart. This was when I had just started the piano a few years ago, and I sort of neglected Chinese... I would really like to start again though, I find it so fascinating!!
I have never heard of this... die and heart??? I think you've been mislead."forget" is 忘, just a single word. die (死) and heart (心) put together 死心 means to... give up sort of. It's not the same as give up though. More like stop trying. On second thought, are you talking about the character for forget being composedof the word xin and wang?
it's more likely that the "death" component was intended as a phonetic guide.
