It's OK, I guess - nothing earth-shattering, everything quite attractive, but it all seems to belong in the early part of the last century where such things were done far better by composers such as Bartók and Szymanowski. I may be very self-critical, but if this kind of thing was the best of which I was capable, I'd think very seriously about shutting up.

I wonder if my listening to is prolonged until the second 50 percent of the Last millennium more often than yours does in the first 50 percent of Nineteenth millennium. But I never get dampen because I have resided almost my all lifestyle.

...very effective primal stuff there; sometimes it's fun to listen to some metal or something totally opposite to a Mozart Sonata lol.

On the same playlist, though, I have my repertoire for this year, which does have some Beethoven, Debussy and Liszt... as well as London Philharmonic playing video game themes, and some Radiohead as well.

i think this little girl is tooo adorable in how she preps for the performance, you see can her respond physically to seeing and hearing the etude inside her before she finally 'lets it out' and boy does she let it out beautifully. oh and her little white boots! too cute!

There are so many wonderful things - the piano studies (which are less well known than they should be), the two violin concertos, the viola concerto, the second piano concerto, The Wooden Prince, The Miraculous Mandarin, Dance Suite, all six quartets (especially 1, 2 & 5), Music for Strings Percussion and Celesta, Divertimento, Sonata for two pianos and percussion, Concerto for Orchestra...

Just discovered this; Alfred Brendel talking about Liszt's Années de Pèlerinage - Première Année: Suisse.  He talks about the entire book and plays each one, and he's speaking in German (but I still find it very interesting, even though I don't speak German).  I am growing this inexplicable interest in Brendel's playing.  Yesterday I listened to him playing some Schuberts.  There is something that is a different kind of interest for me in him and I can't put my finger on it yet.

I have heard him play almost all Beethoven Sonatas live, and many Schubert Sonatas, and Schumann, and it was just wonderful, first of all his Beethoven. I love Brendel, he has touched my heart so deeply!

Or one of the 20th century's greatest piano concertos, depending on one's point of view; there are certainly no horses around here whose evacuations could result in anything so marvellous as Bartók's Second Piano Concerto.

Just thought that I should mention that, since you've referred once to local horses in these parts.

currently exploring supposedly ancient music (supposedly because I have no gauge on how accurate the performance is or how accurate it was recreated). TBH I didn't have the time to understand/research the methods cause I just started searching ancient music hours ago.

more hurrian hymns are scattered all over youtube. Wish I had the time to study in detail the methods and research of uncovering/deciphering the ancient notations.

This isn't "right now", but last night I listened to a wonderful performance of Bach's partita for violin no.2 d minor and Beethoven's Sonata op.47 "Kreutzer" by Itamar Golan (piano) and Maxim Vengerov (violin). They also played a Handel sonata op.1/13.

I really enjoyed the Bach and the Beethoven they were something special (the Handel not so much - I couldn't believe my ears when the Handel got a bigger applause from the audience than the Bach partita with THAT chaconne!)

They were selling this CD so cheaply I bought it and I am very pleasantly surprised. His music is ebullient and positive, even jolly; a welcome change from the slow bus rides to the cemetery in much modern improvisation.

He generates much hagiolatry on jazz forums, which together with the less than impressive clips of him I had seen, tended to put me off. But this little treasure is beautiful. Now I understand.

I just find this piece to be perhaps the most gripping piece in the. entire. world.  I can't even come close to describing this ... I just want to listen to it for the rest of my life.  And, even though there are piano transcriptions, I think it just couldn't be any little particle more perfect than played on the violin.  ah gawd.  I've heard this twice here at the Festival ... *so good*

Here is the Busoni piano transcription.  I have to say, I have not made it past the first two chords, as I feel very disappointed that it doesn't start in the same register as the violin does.  Why would Busoni not do that?  Did Bach not do that in his harpsichord transcription?  It just doesn't have the same kind of tension in that lower register (it's just too mellow and "pretty" sounding here) as the violin has when starting in the register above.  It's already so sad to me this fact and makes me actually mad, but OK, I will try to listen to this entire transcription before I leave my room.
