[Do you think great pioneers [poor Black Americans from YOUR Country] of early Jazz, Blues, Boogie Woogie, Rag such as Pinetop, Albert Ammons, Jimmy Yancey, Meade Lux Lewis, and Pete Johnson, Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller could affor d to eat out when they learnt piano?]
My response is that you've got some real racist stereotype problems. I know for a fact that Duke Ellington and I think Fats Waller both came from very wealthy families. I don't know about everybody in the list, but it's ridiculous to make such remarks without actually researching it.
To tell you the truth, I spent my money where it meant the most: to the teachers, and now I'm one helluva piano player. No, I don't have grand pianos or keyboards sitting in my house like you, nor can I even afford the ones that I want (import taxes in this country are horrendous). And I didn't intend to spend all my money on such instruments if I couldn't play them, that's why I paid to learn how to play. And now with these abilities I can make a living. You know, it's just like a scientist who spends a lot of money on his teachers and degrees and schools. He's not going to learn all the science tricks off of some website on the internet and then call himself a scientist and expect to get a job and win the Nobel Prize. (In our case that would be 1st place at the top competitions).
So stop whining, sell your pianos, and pay for a good teacher. You know, buy a bus ticket and go get your 7th chord.
By the way, there are a lot of good players from 3rd world countries as well. There was a classmate of mine in university, Ashan from Sri Lanka, and he was an extremely good pianist. There was an Indonesian who won a major European competition in recent years. Etc, etc. Even Russia's a developing country. Would you dare say there aren't any good pianists from Russia? And much of the world 150 years ago would be considered 3rd World by today's living standards, so what about all those composers who published their music for the commoners to play and entertain themselves at home because the only music was live music?
So please think first before you say these things.
