New Age/Contemp Classical Composition
on: January 15, 2012, 10:13:56 PM
Hey,
Currently studying HND music in Scotland and for my 'Graded Unit' i've decided to make an album of compositions with piano as the main instrument. I have produced a rough recording of one of the compositions i'm working on and wondered if you would consider giving me a little feedback? (Good or bad I won't be offended
). Any suggestions welcome too

(Sorry I wasn't sure if soundclouds link we're allowed or not? If not I can set up a YouTube video if you prefer?)
Thanks in advance!
Michael

Very charming. A really attractive, simple piece like this is actually much harder to create than complex, technically impressive stuff, or so I have found over the years; this largely because their formation seems largely serendipitous and uncontrollable. In particular, strong melodies to a great extent really do seem to come suddenly, "out of the blue", through "inspiration" or however you term the process, and very rarely through hard work and ratiocination. If you have a bent for creating simple melodies, then if I were you, I would go on doing so without too much analysis, and not feel obliged to introduce sophistication and complexity because those things are fashionable just now.
