Video Scriabin Sonata No2
on: March 23, 2012, 11:38:45 AM
Sonata Fantaisie is so good. Kinda stuck on where to go with the 2nd movement of this sonata.
1st movement
So far, I've only recorded the exposition and development sections. I haven't done enough work on the recapitulation to make it worthwhile. Although the recapitulation is more technical than the exposition, what's more important is the interpretation.
The development is tricky to create the change in atmosphere from the exposition.
2nd movement
Cannot get this up to speed and play it in less than 4:00 like everyone else. I believe the musical aspects of this movement does work at a slower tempo?
So close, yet so far.

I don't think that speed is the problem here. What is that instrument that you are playing?

It's a Yamaha upright piano that I'm playing on. Playing slow is easy.

My suggestion would be to play it slower for about a week... MUCH slower, maybe 4 times slower than you play it now, paying very close attention to every note, including what you would like to do with that note. In other words, with full dynamics and articulation, doing exactly the interpretation that lives in your head, perfectly, but very very slowly. Then try it again at whatever speed you like. Practicing against the clock, trying to play faster and faster will result only in more and more mistakes.
