Difficulty of 2 Rachmaninoff pieces that I intend to learn
on: May 07, 2012, 08:10:11 AM
How difficult are these pieces compared to the Chopin etudes (haven't learned all of em):
Rachmaninoff Prelude Op 23 No2
Rachmaninoff Moment Musicaux No 4
And also how difficult are they compared to each other? In terms of physical technique (I have no problems/qualms when it comes to complicated rhythms/notes/patterns - that's probly why I learned Winter Wind to tempo faster than Ocean Etude). I've seen the sheet music, I think I can handle it, not sure about the physical technique, jumps, other HIDDEN difficulties not seen on sheet music, PEDALING (the first one doesn't have pedal markings).
Also, any tips/tricks to deal with the difficulties that might lie ahead in learning these pieces?

Also, just out of curiosity, how hard are these pieces compared to Islamey (I intend on learning it maybe sometime in the future, or not......lol)

I would say that the "Moment musical n°4" is probably easier than the prelude, but it's only a personal opinion as people don't have the same difficulties on the same piece.
The main difficulty in the prelude is to have a very high left-hand endurance to maintain the legato through all the piece.
And for Islamey it's for me far above the 2 Rachmaninov's...
But if you manage to play (as intended) most of Chopin's Etudes, you certainly have all the technique you need
The rest is only up to you and your will
Maybe you should check Rachmaninov "Etude-Tableau"... op33 is easier than op.39 and if you have the skill i think they are more interesting than the prelude or the moment musical (but it's more difficult).
Can't give you any advice since i never really worked your 2 pieces...
Hope you find your "right" piece and keep us posted
