Hallo guys,

Since a couple of months i am training relative pitch, and its going very well. I am almost able to recognize all intervals within an octave when two notes are played one after another.

But when they are played simultaneously, its much much harder for me to rcognize the interval. So i am asking you guys for some suggestions. How can i learn that? Some effective methods would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance

You could start with major and minor triads (then add diminished and augmented).

These all have a unique kind of sound that is fairly readily identifiable. With youngsters they can often identify major vs minor simply by using a major sounds happy, minor sounds sad type of thinking.

Further from that, I would start trying to simple listen to each not within a root, first or 2nd inversion triad individually and try to identify it as the root, 3rd or 5th.. and in turn identify whether you have a root first or 2nd inversion.

This should be easier than trying to tackle all the intervals, and it should get you subconciously accustomed to identifying 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, and 6ths in sound even if you're not accually naming them as such..
