Pedal in Chopin`s Waltz no.1
on: November 04, 2004, 06:42:33 PM
Hello,
I have a question. My teacher wants me to play this waltz with a lot of pedal. But I like to play it almost without pedal. Which is the correct way?

Which of Chopin's Waltz No. 1s are you talking about? They all seem to be played with a lot of pedal.

However, in general, the "correct" way is the one that you want to go. If you feel strongly about your interpretation, if you have cogent arguments, and if it is within reasonable limits of the composer's intent, by all means, go for it. This is what makes one performance stand out from the rest of them.
