Where to go now?
on: October 22, 2013, 07:10:06 PM
I'm 16 and have been playing piano for 7 years, I have been told I am a model student, as I am naturally talented at playing piano and also very hard-working
 and determined. And yes I know I sound arrogant..

Anyway I'm wondering what to work on next, I was thinking Liszt - La Campanella, Chopin - Ballade No1 or Liszt Liebestraum (which I was working on previously).

I know these pieces are quite contrasting, in length and in overall playing style, but I am very fond of them and would love to spend a couple of hours a day working on them.

So if there's any suggestions on what I should do, if you think these pieces are too ambitious, or you know of another piece i may enjoy (preferably Chopin or Liszt) etc. please tell me.

Thanks, I really need a bit of guidance (I have no idea what my current teacher thinks of my limitations..)

I have no idea what my current teacher thinks of my limitations..

Ask.

Then ask him/her about the pieces on your list. We here are hardly in a position to offer better advice.

We know nothing about your current level. Could you just write down some pieces you have already played? Or post a recording?
Scarlatti - sonata K32, K99, K213, K141
Schubert - Sonata in A minor, D.784, no. 14
Chopin - Etude 10/1, 10/9, 25/12
Liszt - Un Sospiro

I'm curious about what you've been up to repertoire-wise too... anyhow;

If you want to take on pieces of that level, how about you try Chopin's 4th Ballade?

La Campanella is 5 mins of fun, but the Ballade will be 12 minutes that seem to last a life time.
