Bach Inventions, Edition Busoni - Mordents
on: June 20, 2014, 12:03:14 AM
Are the mordents written out in this edition an accurate representation of how mordents are supposed to be played? The mordents are written out to be metrically precise.

For example, on page 4 (Invention No. 1), in bar 1, on beat 3, the last note of the mordent coincides with a sixteenth note in the left hand. That doesn't seem quite right to me.

Busoni thought so, and it's a valid choice.

You may choose to disagree, but then you probably shouldn't be using his edition.

I see.

The annotations Busoni makes are insightful. That's why I'm using his edition.

You could always play off a different edition (with the ornaments notated as such and not written out) and use the Busoni for reference.
