Debussy pour le piano prelude
on: August 30, 2014, 03:52:48 PM
Hi I am having trouble with the triplets in the RH over the semiquavers in this piece, I don't want to give up on this piece but can anyone offer advice on how to overcome this.

Hi, could you be more specific about your problem?

You're talking about 3 against 4 if I remember correctly. This also is in the famous Chopin piece "Fantasie Impromptu", and is a very common issue. Bachscholar, though I have a dislike for his videos, has a good video on 3 against 4, though it is applied to Fantasie Impromptu. Essentially, I would have you just practice hands separate, then practice VERY slowly keeping the semiquavers (16th notes) even as you play triplets over them. You can also do the Bachscholar approach, and break them down into 12 portions of a measure, and find the common denominator essentially.

Thanks Chopinlover01 that is what I meant, sorry about that. I think the problem is when I speed it up, it doesnt fit technically together as it should as I record and play it back at a slow tempo but I will keep going with it.
