Toccata & Fugue in Dm
on: December 01, 2004, 05:13:08 PM
I just had a quick question about this piece (Busoni's transcription)
In bars 6 and 7 (the Prestissimp passage) you've got the octave chords(above middle C) C#-C#, D-D, E-E, C#-C#. Based on the notation I'd say these are meant to be played
LH: 5-1
RH: 1-5, 1-5
LH: 5-1
Would this be correct? I realize this piece is above me, but I can't help but poke around in it anyway. I can think of an easier way to play this (by dividing each chord between both hands, but this may hurt me later and I don't want to cheat)
Anyway, I really am just poking around and found this curious.

Ok, I probably should have included the bars I'm talking about.

If it were to do this passage, I would play one note per hand at a time an octave displaced, sort of like how the piano does the melody at the start of Rach 3. unless the strange octave configuration is some sort of a Busoni visual effect..

Yeah, that is the easier way I mentioned. It makes more sense to me. The way it was written is what threw me. I dunno, in the original organ music it is written as you suggest it be played.
Hehe, I haven't even gotten to the third voice yet
That should be interesting.
