Piano tuning & repair...lost craft?
on: January 27, 2015, 02:06:34 PM
How many of you think piano services like tuning, repair will be offset by digital instruments?

As a Sarasota piano tuner for nearly 50 years. I do not see any apprentices or fleet of service providers under 40 years old. It saddens me to see such a highly skilled craft slowly diminishing.

Thanks for viewing and look forward to this forum.

Acoustic still beats digital.  It's just the freaking cost of those things.

I did a little work (as very little, but 88 times for everything I did) and thought about doing more with it.

If the old guys die off, someone will take their place.  There will be acoustics and there will be a need for someone who knows what they're doing to take care of them.  If there are fewer, then they'll get paid for and travel farther or have stuff shipped to them.
