music specific spam
on: February 04, 2015, 12:13:53 AM
I've been getting these emails for a couple years now.  Anyone else?

The email mentions a rehearsal or concert.  It's an invitation, a reminder, rescheduling.... Something normal enough and music related.  That's what makes these so weird.  Someone has put some time into creating these.  If I swapped in names of people I actually know, they would be functional emails.

Does anyone receive email spam like this?

The second part that happens with it is that "someone" on the email list will 'reply all.'  Then I start getting several emails bouncing around.

What's my reaction?  At first I thought it was from an organization I was in, so I was thinking about replying back, telling them to take my name off the list, they must have me on the wrong list.  That's when it dawned on me it was fake.

Since then I've gotten them for concerts, a few choirs, a band rehearsal, something else today....

I ended up marking every email on the list as a spammer and telling my email is dump those in the trash.  That works.  They tend to keep reusing the same names.

It's just the extent that someone is going to for this.  I googled one of the concerts and it doesn't exist.
