Paganini Variations BEFORE Paganini?
on: September 09, 2015, 12:50:57 AM
Hi all,
  Seems like Paganini wasn't the first to come up with that amazing chord structure everybody uses. Here are some examples:

Go to page 27, to the "Minnueto" in d minor. See a resemblance? ;D

That was by baroque composer Domenico Zipoli.

They're not quite the same. If you see a resemblance, it's as thin as silk, but no thicker.

I don't see this as being the same.

Oh, I know, but their chord structure is VERY similar. That's what I meant. I didn't mean that their melody was similar.

Actually, I'd say their chord structure is BARELY similar. I got what you meant the first time.

Are you sure you're on the right page?

The chord structure for Minuetto is :

i V i V i V i V :|| I iv VII III VI iidim V i V7 i ||

For the Paganini, it is this:
i V i V i V i V \\ I iv VII III iv i V7 i || Yes, it is a few measures shorter, but there is definitely a resemblance. However, our standards of "similar" is different, so maybe that's the case.

Oh crap... I was looking at the bloody Partite... How did I miss the damn Minuetto???

That's embarrassing... I must have been looking at that late at night. I must have just assumed the first 2 lines of that page were the ending to the previous pages movement.

Whoooops...
