What happened to Mayla?
on: October 08, 2015, 02:06:48 AM
I've been away from this site for quite a while. I thought I'd jump in for a bit to say hi and learn a couple of things before I leave again. But I noticed that m1469's posts are all gone. They're all a "." I was saddened by this, she was one of the more interesting people here and she had uploaded numerous, very good piano improvisations. They're all gone. Does anybody know why?

Her making statements like "there's teaching.. and then there's Teaching" provided easy stuff to ridicule, because to be fair they were a bit cheesy in a grandiose kind of way

Isn't that the entire culture of this site? I'd ban nearly everyone here if I went by that criteria alone.

*edit* sorry for the insult to this website in general, I was just rather fond of m1469, particularly her participation in the improvisations forum, so I'm a bit peeved. I'm sure she wasn't perfect, but a lot of the old ever-present trolls I remember from back then are still here. Why weren't they banned? Yep, probably going to block the site again.

She imploded.  It was weird.  She went through her thousands or posts and deleted them all.  Strangely, another member did the same at the same time, so it makes you wonder if that was another account of hers.  I think Nils made it so you can't modify your posts after a certain amount of time after that.  So your typos will live on forever.

IIRC she also made up a bunch of things about someone plagiarizing her work.
Could be wrong though. And it's hard to verify now that she's deleted her entire collection of posts.

How sad. A similar event occurred in the past, a certain Jeremy Ricketson had uploaded some really beautiful improvised piano pieces. One in particular I remembered I searched for and could not find it. It had been replaced with some sort of avante garde noise composition. Makes me wish that recordings uploaded by people could be preserved despite the individual wanting them removed :(  Makes you realize just how fleeting things we say and share here really are.

It was dima_ogorodnikov, he followed m1469's suit because he got a bad impression of the forum after the things that were said and the way m1469 reacted.

Hello Derek,

It has been a while and the forum is now without 2 members who erased all their posts, m1469 and  dima_ogorodnikov, the latter's posts I found quite interesting.  Unfortunately m1469 entered into a fight that would only allow one standing and that did not happen to be her.

A while back there was a "piano competition" here where some members entered their performances, m1469 among them.  For reasons difficult to understand, she accused one of the entrants of copying or digitally modifying and entering her work.  This generated a maelstrom of accusations and counter-accusations.  Frankly I felt that the other guy's entry was substantially different from m1469's yet strangely she doggedly insisted that her work was "copied". You could sense that most members who butted into the controversy seemed to view that m1469 was out of bounds and irrational in her insistence that her work was copied. So it would seem she was bullied with almost everyone against and not agreeing to her accusations. Perhaps she felt alone and unwanted and left.

Oh well - c'est la vie!!  ;D

Bob said exactly what I was going to. she reached critical mass, and became a singularity.  You know, the usual stuff that happens when space time collapses on itself and tears a rift in the fabric of the universe.

someone said two members reached this level, I believe it was 3, but the old alter ego changes were not noticed, I  believe as theory states you need three points of reference to shift dimensions so this one created the final point for triangulation of the vortex coordinates

.

*hint, think was m1469's first name was, makes sense.  ::)

I wonder if she went somewhere else?  You would think her craving, indeed an almost desperate need to discuss deep philosophical musings would not abate.  Can anybody find her?  There are other musical forums.  I'm not social media literate.

I was pretty sure K and m1469 were the same person from the writing style.  I'm sure neither were banned, they left voluntarily although likely with hard feelings.

Susan (pianistimmo) is long gone, I fear she no longer has access.

The argumentative nyig hasn't been seen either.  He was not the type to abandon a fight, I suspect he may actually have been banned.

Did she go through both the m1469 and K posts and delete them all?  I don't remember.  The number of posts though... That takes a lot of time and work to go through them all.  That's thousands of posts.

I've wondered if there are more profiles, even ones... still around... and active... right now..... maybe even on this thread....

Paranoia on forums can really mess with your head. It got the better of me when I was 18 and into making games in QBasic, participating on a forum called QB RPGs. I got so paranoid, and so upset with a few individuals that I pretty much imploded psychologically. Reminds me a lot of what happened to m1469 actually. It kinda ruined my love of game programming for a number of years. It is during this time I became a musician, amusingly, music healed me and now I enjoy both music and programming again.

I really think the internet has this odd potential to both dramatically amplify and enhance positive interactions between people---enriching our lives, but it has EQUALLY large potential to cause psychological chaos. you have to be careful with it. This is why I use internet filtering software, to limit the time I spend and to reduce temptations (of many kinds) which might waste my time or poison my mind in various ways.

That said, I will probably leave again for a while but I'll pop in from time to time. Unfortunately I can't seem to configure my filter for time for a specific site, only for the entire filter all at once..

Hi Derek :) If someone cares about what everyone thinks of you then you never will have an easy time online or irl. Attention seekers are everywhere. Deleting all your posts is equivalent of slamming the door as you leave and to do it thousands of times is very lol and just highlights that these people have invested too much emotion in their online persona. If you are your real self you won't go crying and leaving in a huffy (unless you are totally new to internet interactions!), some people though are difficult people irl too and it is no wonder they can't deal with the internet where people will not always agree with you despite who is right or wrong.

or creepy...   ;D    their ghosts walk among us reincarnated in other accounts...lol  sometimes the reincarnated member will even cite the "departed" member's statements--that's too weird for words.

I also witnessed the implosion of the member formally known as m1469.   I don't remember anything about bullying...    I do remember the PS piano competition and the disaster that followed.   Her leaving was months after that incident so I am not sure that was her motivation.   She also started posting these "crisis of conscience" type essays--then she just started deleting everything..  she said goodbye.

I always mentally pronounced m1469 as "Mi-luh."  At some point she said (probably deleted now) that was "May-luh."  I decided to stick with "Mi-luh' anyway.  I think it's the influence of Mayan.  "Mi-uhn."

Powerful thing to misinterpret.  My brain was stuck on that.

Her apparently.  I asked.  But Mih-luh was already set in my mind.

I guess I'm going with the Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation....

Just goes to show if you're going to participate here you have to naturally have thick skin. There's always going to be a few who follow you around bullying you or other for some reason who have nothing better to do; you just got to have confidence in yourself for what you know and who you are and visit for a particular reason, post, and just go about your life.  If you make your day focused singularly on this forum like some people do it just will get them sensitive and or implode like the original in question whoever mayla? and so forth.
