Pischna experts -- Exercise 10 fingering?
on: December 23, 2004, 05:10:37 AM
Exercise no. 10 in Pischna is to be done in all keys.  The exercise is given in C major with a particular fingering to be followed, which is fine for C major, but is it really intended to be used for the other keys?  Try it in C# major, for example, it is very strange.  What is Pischna up to?

It´s really strange, kind of a thumb excercise.
Hard as hell, like most of Pischna excercises.

Thanks -- I have only learned about 10 of the Pischna exercises so far but I am completely fascinated by them.  Have you done all 60?  What do you think of Pischna generally?

No!!! I´m not a Pischna expert! Sorry.

I know Benedetti Michelangeli made Argerich to play Pischna under his tutelage. And Pischna exercises are in the same kind of exercises as practicing all scales with C Major fingerings. I know many recognized teachers that advocate practicing scales with C Major fingerings, but don´t know why.  All I know, because I tried most of them, is that they are really hard to get a tempo.  And must be played hands separately at first to learn them quickly. Otherwise you will be hours with one number until you feel comfortable.

I don´t even know who Pischna was!
