Canadian University Audition Repetoire Question
on: June 23, 2016, 07:04:54 PM
Hello Guys,

looking to audition for McMaster and York for the year 2017.

Going to play two or three pieces.

Have not chosen anything yet so please feel free to recommend,

1. Bach Prelude and Fuge #3, C Sharp Major     or Bach French Suite No 6 *All, No Repeat

2. Beethoven 32 Variation in C Minor or Beethoven Sonata 18 1st and 2nd Movement

3. Chopin Ballade 2

4. Bartok Six Romanian Folk Dances or Mompou, Canción y Danza N.6

I would probably go with the prelude/Fuge with Ballade and Bartok route, as the French Suite/32 variation and Mompou seems pretty interesting as well.

I believe in Canada, these level of difficulty might be appropriate for the auditions?

Could anything else recommend some nice 21st Century pieces that are suitable for Univ. Auditions?

Thanks.

On 21st cent i recently posted this onanother thread. Would/could work

basically got the book just for this piece. cannot get it out of my head.

this kid's playing blows my mind. also that the composer was only 18 when he wrote that prelude..  pretty wild
shohei amimori prelude. Just about certain its post year 2000 since hea still in early 20's and he wrote it whem he was 18/still in high school few years back or so i think.
Was a featured competition piece.

You're program looks fine.

If you want to make a bigger impression, choose a Canadian composer to play.  Make use of the CMC library.  They have excellent loan services.

There was a time when a Canadian work was required to be studied for certain performance courses at York, so it will give you a head start.

Looking a little forward into the future: prepare yourself a second instrument.  It is often a requirement to take part in large ensemble courses.  Common choices are singing in the choir or playing an orchestral instrument in the orchestra or wind band.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
