Hi tinyhands.
I'm a big Nazareth fan as well. Which piece is it you're working on? "Odeon" seems to be the most popular and it's great fun to play or listen to but many of the other pieces are quite attractive. I think Nazareth's reputation has enjoyed at least a mild resurgence over the past couple of decades or so.
If you're not familiar with the music of Zez (Eleazar) Confrey you might want to try to track some of it down. Only a few pieces are Latino flavoured like Nazareth, but he wrote loads of "novelty" piano pieces - many of which (I think) are better than the famous "Kitten on the Keys". I think most of his music is still under copyright so you might have to check libraries or see if you can purchase an anthology. I have one published by CPP/Belwin Inc.
best wishes,
