Ravel alborada double glissando

On the way up in a video you can see Richter uses the nails of 2 and 3, the hand is at an awkward angle but I think it works best.

I also watched a funny but true video where Lang Lang makes it clear that getting the fingers wet actually makes the glissando painless..... Wish I knew that when I was doing waldstein.

In any case I find them still unpleasant to play, what experience and background do people have here on the topic?

I've known this as the inverted glissando, in the Ravel I use a 42 while doing it. I don't think making the fingers wet makes any difference at all except to damage the piano (or gross people out if you use your spit lol). So long the contact with the keyboard is with your nail you will be fine, just don't catch any skin or sharp corners of a key (I actually did that once and left a trail of blood on the keys urg).

Inverted glissando. Interesting, so it has a term. I always thought I discovered a deep dark secret when I observed that video. If you can believe this, I thought you play the ascending glissando as if you play 2 and 4 as in regular fingerings and drag. Literally a universe of pain.

So I wrote the piece off as unplayable. I guess it helps to have knowledgeable friends and associates. ... Or YouTube... Or Richter

Anyway, it's actually very easy that passage, it looks flashy.

The black key glissando in barque I believe most people use the fleshy underside of right hand 2 3 and 4. I think that's what I used in ondine but it's been years since I played that.

I also really like the 3-1.  Interesting aside.  I sustained an injury in my undergraduate study that permanently exposed a larger part of my 3rd nail.  Great for glissando... although I do wonder if my nail will just fall off permanently sometime when I'm older.

3 and 1 is used on the way down, the pad of 3 and nail of 1.

And either 4-2 or 3-2 are used on the way up.

I thought that's how it's intended.
