Will you critique this performance?

My brother is in a piano competition so he made this arrangement of Little Drummer Boy in the minor key, and he would love your thoughts!

What I would try:
My take is that this is a dreamy, mysterious, sad piece. The music itself doesn't vary much so I would try to solve this with loud vs soft, cres. vs dim., and any tool in my kit.
Specifically:
1) Left hand accompaniment so soft that it is hard to make out - it becomes mysterious.
2) More dynamics technically and emotionally within phrases.
3) Try to take the piece on an emotional journey.
