Recital Repertoire Suggestions

Hi everyone!

My teacher is having me hold a solo recital next year. I currently don't have enough repertoire to comprise a whole recital, so I'm looking for suggestions for new pieces that would complement my current repertoire well.

Here's what I'm working on currently:
-Bach WTC 1 P&F in A-Flat Major BWV 862
-Beethoven Sonata op. 13 no. 8 "Pathétique"
-Ravel Jeux d'eau
-Liszt Trois Études de Concert no. 1 "Il Lamento"
-Prokofiev Toccata op. 11 in D Minor

I definitely want to learn more Baroque music, since the Bach piece is by far the shortest out of the ones listed. My favorite composers at the moment are Ravel and Chopin (whose Winter Wind etude I played last year), and I'm interested in exploring Scarlatti, Poulenc, and Liszt, although I'm open to anything.

Hi Aaaaaa,

I would put Winterwind into the program since it's short and it does well with audiences. If there's anything in your repertoire that you enjoy playing, I would use it too. It'll be easier to relearn an older piece. You still have a year, so you could learn a Scarlatti sonata like K.427. It's bright and short, and I think it'd be a great contrast to your current program. Also give a listen to Bach-Liszt Fantasy and Fugue in g minor. It's one of my favorite pieces and I hope to play it for my recital too :)

If you want to add more Bach, you could try the Brahm's arrangement of the D minor chaconne for left hand alone. It's truer to the original than Busoni's two-handed version, and it's fun to try a LH alone piece. It's no harder than other things you are playing.

A agree with the winterwind etude if you already learned it.
Harder:
Chopin Etude op 10 no 1
Liszt Rhapsody Espagnole
Chopin Ballade g minor
Rachmaninoff in general

Easier:
Liebestraum 3 Liszt
Scarlatti sonata e major K.380
Tchaikovsky album for the young
Chopin nocturne c sharp minor posthumous.
The J.S. Bach Partita 2 in C Minor, BWV 826: Rondeaux is nice.
These are only suggestions.
The best thing to do is let youtube pick random pieces and see which ones you like.

How about Liszt Mephisto Waltz, after mastering winter wind and other complex pieces it wouldn't take you less than a few months to learn.

I'm surprised you don't think that's enough repertoire for a recital. Additionally, I'm happy to see that someone else is playing that heavenly A flat fugue.

I guess I would suggest any one of:
Bach Italian Concerto
Chopin Ballades 1-3, Scherzos 1-3, or Polonaise 5
Ravel Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
Prokofiev Sonata 4 (hardest suggestion)
