Teaching during school hours
on: October 03, 2020, 04:14:36 AM
Hello, I am interested in starting to teach piano, initially to family and friends and then to build a small studio. I have young children who will soon be in school and therefore I will be occupied for much of the time that you would typically teach school aged children (ie after school and weekends). From your experience, is it possible to build a busy teaching studio that operates during the school day? My own music teacher seems to have quite full days during the week teaching uni students and seniors. Can anyone shed some light on this and how I would go about it in terms of teaching approach and marketing? Thank you.

There is always the potential to teach when you want to! Most students are definitely in the afterschool hours but I have a number of students that take lessons during the day. Don't forget that many students are home schooled and you can advertise your studio and availability to the home school population. There are also adult students and I have adult students who take their lessons during the day.
Online lessons also allows for flexibility and opens one's reach to students across the world. Don't forge that day time for you is going to be night time for a student in a different time zone. Besides teaching locally I have students from around the world. You could build a studio with in person and remote lessons that fit your availability!
