I need some relatively easy pieces.
on: October 17, 2020, 12:19:05 PM
I am an amateur piano player (in case you haven't already guessed) and my skill level is somewhere within the fuzzy cloud of "intermediateness".

Right now, I'm looking for short pieces that are easy enough for me to play while reading the score (instead of playing them from memory), like some of Beethoven's German Dances.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just off the top of my head, and depending on your tastes, and whereabouts you are in that fuzzy cloud, you could try:

- Burgmüller: studies op 100 (easy) or ops 105 & 109 (harder)
- Clementi: sonatinas
- Chopin: Mazurkas (quite a wide range of difficulty)
- Schumann: Album for the Young; Scenes from Childhood (Kinderszenen)
- Chaminade: Romances sans paroles, op 76
- Bartok: Mikrokosmos (6 books in ascending order of difficulty)

I should have added J S Bach's (2-part) Inventions and (3-part) Sinfonias BWV 772–801. A slightly easier introduction to those is the set of Six Little Preludes (Sechs Kleine Präludien),  BWV 933-938.

Thanks a bunch. :)

I've just checked out Burgmüller's études and Clementi's sonatinas and they look like just the sort of thing I was looking for.

I'll go take a look at the rest of your suggestions.
