Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No. 1, Mvt. 3
on: January 20, 2021, 04:25:47 AM
Hi everyone! This is my first post on this forum!
I am 16 years old, and I am currently half way through the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2. I plan to finish the other half within the next three or four weeks. I am entering my first concerto competition in April!
With that being said, I am also entering a solo piano competition in may. I have had great success with learning very difficult pieces fast recently (as is the case with the concerto). For this solo competition, I was thinking of playing the third movement of Rachmaninoff’s first piano sonata. I think it’s a beautiful piece with the potential to win.
I want to know what is it’s difficulty in relationship to the concerto? While I’ve had some difficulties with the concerto, I have been able to get through them all and I am learning it so fast I am quite proud of myself.

It's very much beyond the difficulties of the concerto, especially if you compare the 1st mvt of the concerto 2 and last mvt of sonata 1. I have not learned the sonata yet I'd very much like to but it must be so much work. I recently finished learning the first mvt of concerto 2 and I'm stunned it was much easier than I ever thought. I'd pick something easier if I were you but maybe you'll be fine who knows
Beethoven-Alkan, concerto 3
Faure barcarolle 10
Mozart-Stradal, symphony 40
