Poems for Album of the Young
on: March 15, 2023, 08:25:30 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to find some good poems to accompany the Album. Just to help visualize/internalize the different characters of the pieces more.

Short. Long. Doesn't matter. I love poetry but not enough to know specific poems that may relate to them.

Paintings would also be a good help for visualizing.

For example an accompanying poem for mama might be:

A picture memory brings to me:
I look across the years and see
Myself beside my mother's knee.

I feel her gentle hand restrain
My selfish moods, and know again
A child's blind sense of wrong and pain.

But wiser now, a man gray grown,
My childhood's needs are better known.
My mother's chastening love I own.

- John Greenleaf Whittier

Are we talking about Schumann's Album for the Young?
