Ravel Concerto in G two piano versions
on: February 21, 2024, 05:06:20 PM
I'm planning on learning Ravel's Concerto in G over the summer and I'm wondering if anyone knows about Ravel's reduction for two pianos. The edition offered by Durand (DR12143) has the orchestral reduction labeled as a transcription by Ravel's buddy, Lucien Garban. In the Wikipedia article "List of compositions by Maurice Ravel," there is a reduction by Ravel listed with Marnat number 83a under the piano duo section.

I'm wondering if a reduction by Ravel for two pianos is available for purchase, or if it even exists?

Thanks for any help!
playing the piano is so fun yay

Ravel didn't make a reduction. Garban's is the next best thing because he was involved in preparing the full orchestral score for publication, and both Ravel and Marguerite Long proofread Garban's piano reduction. Even the later Urtext versions use Garban's as one of their primary sources.
