Arthur Greene

I heard Arthur Greene perform on Saturday and it was a fantastic recital.  He is currently the chair of the piano department at the University of Michigan and has won both the Gina Bachauer and William Kapell Piano Competitions.  I think he is one of the best Scriabin interpreters living.  His program included the 4th and 9th Scriabin Sonatas.

Has anyone heard him perform?

I am fortunate to have heard Arthur Greene play literally dozens of times. We were in college together and would practice in neighboring cubicles in the music building.  I would go and pester him in his cubicle and beg him to play Scriabin for me.  Sometimes I would sit under the piano and just let that awesome sound wash over me. Recently I got his CD of the Scriabin etudes and it's great to discover that I was right thirty years ago: Arthur Greene is as good as it gets.

it is amazing how people we know when we are younger turn into something great while others turn to crap. (I tend to know more crap than greatness).
