Choosing piano concerto
on: November 05, 2024, 03:11:18 PM
Hi,
I actually never really try to practice piano concerto, kinda afraid to start thinking it would be out of my league. And now I really want to try one.
Could you guys help to choose one for me?
Right now I’m learning Mozart KKV 457, Schumann Sonata 22-2, Prok Sonata 3, and Rach Moment Musical 4. Is there any easier concerto that would be suitable for me? I prefer to play one in minor. 😅

Start with just one movement and pick something you like. You don’t gotta do the whole thing right away

Do you have any suggestion which piece to start? And I still don’t know a lot of piano concerto, so will listen to any suggestions!

My first port of call would be to listen to concertos available through Music Minus One and the G-Phil app, because these have recordings of the orchestral part. Unless you have an orchestral opportunity coming up, or a teacher to play the piano reduction with you, it's a total waste of time learning a concerto that isn't on MMO/G-Phil- you're losing a chunk of the music.

Beethoven 2nd concerto is not too bad.
