Intermediate pieces that sound advanced for talent show
on: February 20, 2025, 04:32:57 PM
I am intermediate player (14F with small hands)  who really likes arpeggios. My school is holding a talent show next month.  Could anyone recommend any classical pieces that have lots of arpeggios that I can learn and master in less then a month?

The Toccata by Kachaturian is a classic crowd pleaser for upper intermediate students.

Liszt - S. 139 no. 1 "Preludio"
The first (and easiest) of Liszt's Transcendental Études, which is mostly arpeggios with a few trills thrown in. About a minute long.

Liszt - S. 141 no. 4 "Arpeggio"
Liszt's 3rd version of a piano transcription of Paganini's 1st Caprice; also the easiest Étude he wrote, consisting almost entirely of arpeggios with a handful of runs in staccato thirds. About two-and-a-half minutes.

Debussy - Jardins sous la Pluie
One of Debussy's more famous Estampes, consisting mostly of arpeggios and trills. A bit more challenging than the above due to technical and musical demands, but I wouldn't call it too advanced.

Those are just a few that come to mind. Hope this helps! :)

How small are your hands? Sinding's Rustle of Spring would be perfect- arpeggios and repetitive so quick to learn- but there are a couple of parts where the theme comes in octaves.
