Starting at young or old, which is the best??
on: April 22, 2005, 10:57:23 AM
Is it more difficult to achieve in piano when you started older??

is it practically better to start at young age (3 year old, for example), because we can learn faster both technique(hand) and ear training??

ps, I didnot mean starting at old is very bad, but what I thought, in reality, maybe we could play more delicatedly if we start younger, because otherwise without practicing the hands, our hands might tremble(ie, less precisely)...

as some one said, some people even start from 70, but I think that's abit too old, because how can an old folk listen as sharp as a child, and play as less trembling as a child??  ::)

Any help??

thanks

yes it's true that u have many advantage if u start at young age
i think brain can learn more and it will become natural with the body mind if we start at young age
and easier to acquire a big repertoire becoz something you learn when u was young and used to it practise it everyday it will bcom like your mother-languages.and you can grow up musicality easier than older
but the advantage of the old one is that u have a passion to play to learn to practise
you have more discipline to work hard to gain technique
yes IMO it will become harder when you grow up to get a very natural technique
sad i'm not the one who started to learn when i was young
Piano = my life
My life = piano

yeah, true

I started at the same time with my sister, learning piano, when I was 14, and she's 6

I progressed much better, maybe because, I am older, thus smarter, and more determinations.  :)

Btw, I am 15 now, and playing clementi's sonata...

cheers,

I think you pick the piano up faster when your older. IT's still probly best to start young because you devellop more gound work and have less holes in your technique. However. I started when I was 15 and now 5 years on I'v prity much caught up with my class mates who have bin playing for a lot longer. however my musical upbringing started very young I just didn't start playing the piano properlly untill I was 15
