CSO 05-06: An Amazing Season!
on: April 26, 2005, 01:07:29 AM
I am in absolute awe of the blockbuster season Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has lined up for next year.  I'm gonna go nearly every weekend (good think I'll get free tickets to every performance for being in the youth orchestra).  This makes me proud to be a Cincinnatian!

Piano Concerti:
Brahms 2 (Angelich)
Tchaikovsky 1
Ravel D (aimard)
Schumann (Ohlsson!)
Bartok 2 (Goodyear)
Mozart 9
Rach Paganini Fantasy (POLUSMIAK!)
Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue

Symphonies:
Beethoven 7, 9
Mahler 1, 2
Tchaik 6
Mendelssohn 3, 5
Mozart Jupiter
Sibelius 7
Bruckner 5, 8
Shostakovich 6
Schumann 3
Rach 2

Other cool stuff:
Mussorgsky Pictures!
Strauss Horn 2 with an insane horn player
TWO clarinet concerti  ;D the principal (Hawley) doing Bernstein Prelude, Fugue, Riffs
and RICHARD STOLTZMAN doing Piazzolla Contemplacion... a tight piece
Bernstein West Side Story
Elgar Enigma Variations
a ton of violin, cello, and double concerti
tons of other stuff

Man oh man... what a year it will be!!!

That is quite the season; I would love to attend many of those concerts.  The Brahms 2 would be tits.

Who's conducting the Bruckner 8?

Jesús López-Cobos, who was Music Director before Paavo.

And the Bruckner is the only piece for that concert.   8)

Don't worry Lance, I didn't list it, but probably 80% of their concerts begin with an obscure modern piece of music... I've just never heard of them before.

That's nice, but the CSO is certainly NOT the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra...sorry.

Hopefully he's insinuating CSO = chicago symphony orchestra.  Who, I might add, I get to see for free at ravinia repeatedly this summer (they give college students lawn tickets for free).   ;D ;D ;D
