I've four recordings, perahia, ashkenazy, pollini and van den Hoek.

van den Hoek is crap, I like Ashkenazy the most.

I haven't actually heard very many complete sets, but my favourite is Cziffra's. My favourite "standard" set is Perahia's, which is strange because normally I can't stand that guy. I don't care much for Ashkenazy's, and have only heard a few of Pollini's which I liked quite a bit (a friend and I were sampling the disc during lunch once, and we only heard op. 10).

I have heard many, but just own Ashkenazy and Ohlssohn (Garrick..spelling?).......

Anyway, Garrick Ohlsson does an incredible job lyrically and technically.

I like it much more than Pollini's.

Ashkenazy's are very smooth.

Many recordings have been made but only a few will prevail ¡¡¡ (Pollini, Anievas and Ashkenazy)
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

My favorite recordings of Chopin's Etudes are the ones by Guiomar Novaes, and I also like Alfred Cortot, Luganski, and others.
