How do I play this?? (Chopin waltz no. 18)
on: June 03, 2005, 03:13:59 PM

How do I play those small notes with the over them? I've seen those notes without the line too, what does that mean.

I've listened to the midi of the song and I have a rough idea what they do but could someone give me a specific answer?

RED CIRCLE:
Should the small note F be played before ALL the other 5 notes

OR

do I play the left hand, the G and the little note F at the same time and very quickly change the F to an E flat?

Actually, is this piece I'm working on waltz number 18 or 19? I read some threads about it and there's seems to be some controversy. This piece is called Grande Walse Brilliante. What grade is it?

In the RCM it is grade ten. It's op.18 in my edition.

The little grace notes with the line through them are called "Acciaccatura" - very short appogiaturas. I played them just before the other notes. If you want a formal definition go to: https://www.answers.com/topic/ornament-music

Thanks for the reply! I tried to search the forum about the RCM grades and how they compare to the ABRSM.

This should be correct. I recorded this Waltz many years ago and also produced sheets for Chopin's waltz no.18, 19 & 20 (yes there is prehaps a 20:th waltz).

Yes I know, the recordings of the waltzes are far from grate.
