A used Kawai KG-2-E, RX-3, Yamaha C2, or C3?
on: June 18, 2005, 05:04:59 AM
I saw a used Kawai KG-2 in a store.  It sounds good to me.  It's about 15 years old according to the store.  Is it a good model?  How is it compared to Kawai RX-3?  Is it worth to get a used one or a brand new RX-3?  This used KG-2 is for sale at about $10K.  Is it a good buy?  How much is a brand new RX-3 in U.S.?  How do they compare to Yamaha C2 or C3?

I believe the KG series pianos were replaced with the RX series (newer) pianos.  I've played both and they have totally different characteristics.  You have to play both and see which one you like.

I find KG to be brighter side.  Very responsive to finger weight, with a colourful tone that projects easily.  You can "sing" with these pianos.

RX has more depth in the tone, slightly darker than KG.  It has a more refined action.  You should also check out the new Millenium III action versus the ABS action.

Yamaha C3 - even darker, yet very resonant tone.  It may seem "shallow" compared to an RX-3 at first, but when examined closely I found it is capable of much more nuance and coloration than the Kawai.

Yamaha C series and Kawai RX series are competing models.  Pick the one that you like the best.  They are roughly around the same price range.

I was considering the same models myself a year ago.  I ended up with a 15 year old C3 in mint condition for an excellent price.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
