Ligeti is dead. :(

Yes, I think it can fairly be said that this is precisely what "ryguillian" meant; this news has been reported in various sources already. Ligeti had, we understand, already been seriously ill for quite some time (we were informed of this by Fredrik Ullén, one of the pianists who has recorded all of Ligeti's piano études).

this is truly a sad, sad day in music if these reports are indeed true.

Unfortunately, I do not think that they can be accepted as anything other than true, especially as obituaries have been published in such usually reliable sources as the BBC
https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/292812.stm
and (so we are told) the New York Times (although we've not yet seen this). This obliquely reminds me to some extent of Busoni's perplexed remark in 1915 that he had heard about the death of Skryabin from sufficient sources that he felt obliged to accept it as being true...

That sounds interesting! Can you point to a recording please?

As for Ligeti, I've never had any knowledge on him; but hearing of anyone dying is a sad moment.

Ditto all that was said before. Truly sad.
Belles journées, souris du temps,
vous rongez peu à peu ma vie.
Dieu! Je vais avoir vingt-huit ans...
Et mal vécus, à mon envie.

That sucks! Whose gonna write decent piano etudes now? or good modern music? He was one of the very few contemporary composers I liked!
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

I can't describe it, but that music makes me...happy. I put it on and just started smiling and now I can't stop. I'd hardly call it melodious genius, but that may be the most perfect-for-the-moment-I-first-heard-it piece of music I've ever heard (if that makes any sense at all).

i think i understand. it may not be ligeti's best piece, but it certainly is interesting.

So I hear. First Bob Moog, and now the great Ligeti! Sad days for sure.

Lukas Ligeti. He does percussion stuff. I don't have any recordings/heard anything by him, though.

A sad day indeed.  >:(
