mp3 players
on: July 03, 2006, 05:27:11 AM
I feel like I'm the only person under age 20 in the whole universe who doesnt have one of these things..

This week I'm shopping for one.  Please tell me about yours, its price, and what you like/dont like about it.

So far, I am liking this 30 GB one for $359.95 CAD:

https://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?PageTag=&page=file&memx_menu=EmbedProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=6548&SID=

but then I think 30 GB might be too excessive, and lean towards this 8 GB one for $249.95 CAD:

Please help!

much appreciated,
donjuan

i have a 4th generation 40 GB ipod. it cost me about $435 USD with tax. its a neat little device with a ton of memory. ive had it fo about a year and half now, and it has been pretty good to me. however, it started freezing on me about 3 months ago. luckily i had bought an apple extended warranty for about $50 and i could send it in to apple. they ahd it back to me in about 5 days and i didnt have to pay one cent for repair or shipping costs. it is very reliable and the service is easy and fast. it did freeze though. i would say to stick to something reliable like an ipod.

I own a Creative Zen 30GB player.  It only cost $200.  The only drawback is that it's bigger than an Ipod.  Other than that I have no complaints.

I bought my daughter the 30 Gb model.

She pointed out that even though it was more expensive, the price per Gb was much less than the cheaper model.

It turns out to be useful to have that much memory.  You don't have to worry about deleting old stuff every time you start to get full, and you can add pictures and videos.

Buy the biggest you can afford.

thanks for your input.  I just bought this:

https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1915886,00.asp

Everywhere I went, salespeople were trying to talk me out of getting an ipod.  They all said the return rate is high as people keep having technical issues with them.

as well as a pair of $230 sennheiser headphones which (as I am currently listening) I am thinking arent worth it..  oh well, 30 day return policy woohoo

oh well, I'll see if I have to return the media player too

ok, I have a new problem.

It is obvious they design these things for people who listen to pop and rock, but not classical.

I am having a really hard time organizing my music on the mp3 player, because it automatically sorts whatever I put into it by genre, artist and album.

In classical music, the composer name is put in the artist's place, and in a number of files, there is no declared artist at all!

You can imagine what a terrible mess it makes after it automatically disorganizes everything..  I have 'unknown' folder upon another 'unknown' folder, because the *** thing automatically organizes (or shall I say 'DISorganizes') everything

I would like to organize everything by Composer, but the mp3 player only recognizes the specified 'artist' in the mp3 file.

Is there any way to bypass all this automatic crap?

if you cant answer my first question, please try this easier one:

How can I change the specified 'Artist,' 'Genre,' or 'Album' names in each mp3 file?

I have the composer's name under genre and the artist under artist.  It's convenient since it'd be annoying to try to break down all the periods (is Beethoven classical or Romantic?)

Right click on the mp3 file and click on 'Properties', then click on the 'Summary' tab and then go to the "Advanced' tab on the bottom, if it's not already open.

You should see 'Artist', 'Album Title', 'Year', 'Track No.', 'Genre', 'Lyrics', 'Title' and "Comments' sections.

You can change any or all of the information there.

Cheers

everthing is cool now.  I have been changing the mp3 tags using a freeware batch modifier.  The way I have it organized now is to have, for example "Liszt: Ballades" as the 'album,' and then all the different artists in the file name, for example "Ballade No. 2 -Cziffra"

thanks again for your help!

...now if I can only find something free to use to convert wma to mp3..

i got a 15gig 3rg gen ipod and listen to it until i fall asleep every night (usually about 2 hours..)
I use my PC for music when I'm not in bed - and thats on all the time. From 7zm (when i get up till 7.30 when i go to school, then from 4.30 when i get home playing solidly till about 10.00pm then i change to my ipod).
Im afraid of weaering out my pc and my ipod!
Also, I have over 40gigs of piano music, and my ipod is full of piano stuff, so i cant keep it all on there. over 10,000 tracks on my pc but my ipod has only about 2000 on it :(
Anyway, I cant afford a bigger one as I'm 15 and don't have a limitless amount to buy a 60gb ipod, which i would go for next.
nice mp3 player by the way, the zen ones are good i've heard.

I'd go for the Zen.

I have an IPOD and I was disappointed.

If you have a large music collection and don't mind switching up the songs on the player every few days, then I'd look into a smaller non-hard-drive-based mp3 player...the battery life is far better.

And then, you have 70GB of music which is too much for a 60GB iPod. Don't buy a bigger one :P

I have a 20GB creative zen sleek photo, and i love it
It is perfect for classical music, and 20GB is a decent amount of music to carry around. It also has a random and rarely heard function, so you can hear a variety
