Another study to prove commonsense?

I think general there's a connection, but... I wonder how scientific the study was.  A scientific measurement of "lazy?"  And in general people who like disco music are on the lazy side?  Seems like a bit of a stretch to connect things like that.  And I would think it's hard to do a study like that, even though I think it's kind of commonsense that what you like in music matches your personality.  I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions.  Shy people like classical?  I'm sure I'll make some error in logic if things are broken down that simply.  There are plenty of arrogant, outgoing people in classical music.  Just think of the divas, soloists, and first-chair players.  Though that's on the performing side.

Interesting nonetheless.

which scholars wasted their time with this research? don't they have anything better to do?

of course musical taste reflects personallity i can't imagine an ADHD person liking Satie

but it is silly to say that all classical fans are creative and not outgoing and bizzare to say all funk fans are lazy

I wonder how they would study it.  Ask people?  "Are you creative?"  "Why yes.  Yes I am.  In fact, I'm very creative."  Or better... "No.  I'm not creative at all.  AND I'm lazy too."

And lumping everything together in "classical."  You know there's got to be a difference between 20th century classical, Romantic classical, and minimalist classical.

It's still interesting to see the results though.

I could picture a job interview.  "What kind of music do you like?  ...Oh funk?  Really.  Well, thanks for coming in today.  We'll get back to you."

Of course there are always going to be exceptions, but I will say that people who are into classical music and metal, tend to have more respect for the hard work and dedication that is required to master an instrument, whereas people who like pop music, only care if the singer is hot or cute.

couldn't agree more my sister is forever watching like MTV and when a video comes on first thing she says is stuff like "ooh i like his hair" or "those shoes are awful"

Is that really research or is it one of those waste-o-time generalizations?

I think it has nothing to do with the music being clasical or metal, bro. Rather it is because it is not pop, not mainstream. People who know only mainstream have limited knowledge of music, so they might not have an idea about the hard work in music-making.

People who look for music beyond mainstream usually turn to underground bands or classical or both. And they usually find it necessary to create their own music. So they know hard work and dedication firsthand.

However, there are counterculturalists who simply turn to metal and the like and even form bands just to look cool. Posers. :P It's just as bad as mainstream, imo.
