recording software

I am looking for some recording software -free, that is.  I want something simple like the sound recorder application that comes with the computer, but that can record more than a minute.  Please let me know if you know any good free recording software to download.

https://audacity.sourceforge.net/ free & advanced (althought it's fairly simple to use if you want something simple just set where to record from in the properties & hit the big red record button=)

audacity is the best! not many people seem to know about! such a great program

Here's a tip.  If you've noticed that you have to turn up the volume when listenting to your recording on your home stereo, because the recording seems too low. 

You can automatically adjust or "normalize" the volume so it is at it's highest level without clipping.  Just look for a command that says "Normalize". 

I don't have Audition loaded on this computer, otherwise I'd give you the menus.
