Should I do this?
on: June 19, 2005, 06:28:56 AM
A few years ago, I met a girl at a performance that we were participating in who had a huge crush on me. We've had no contact since then, but a while back I performed with what turned out to be the orchestra of the university that she attends. I did some googling and found her mom's email address (who was part of the performance where I met her daughter). I'm thinking of contacting her and asking how her daughter is doing - with the hope that she would forward the email to her daughter and we might end up on a date together.

Ok, now that I've wasted your 30 secs with my yagt, what do you think of this plan?  ;D

i don't think you should do this.  your conductor will wonder why you never come back after intermission.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

If she's well fit then do it.

If not, loads of fish in the sea.

well i guess the key here is that you KNOW she had a crush on you. if you didn't, people might start looking at you funny, and take out a restraining order...

Do it, man.. You dont want to be the 40yr old virgin loser typing away in his basement on pianoforum about the one that got away..

sounds shrewd - and brave- contacting the mom first.. whew! that's tense man, props to you if you go through with it.

Alright - the layout of my email shall be:
Introduction/explain how I know them
Recent concert - saw university news article and realized she attended that uni
Then something like - I was just thinking of her and wanted to see how she's doing. Please give her my sincerest regards.
Best,
[insert name]

How does that look? Any alternatives to the last sentence?

you're too worried and too nice!  just let her see you again.  she'll convince her own mother.

ps i think you have to date her before you decide you're in love.  then, you can discretly back out without having written all these letters.  (' i think i love your daughter, i read all the small print to find her name, ...)

Well, pianonut, the only way I can find of contacting her is through her mom.

what if...you went back to the uni she attends in the fall and just show up near the door after one of her classes?

Ok... and back to frickin topic  ;D

I think I just thought of a less weird way to do this... I email her mom offering accompanist services for any of her students (she's a string teacher - the students need accompanists occasionally, don't they?) and then casually ask about her daughter.

Don't hang around man, she could have found the love of her life in the last 3 days when you started this thread.

Fortune favours the brave. E mail her mum and say you would like to meet up with her if she is not seeing anyone else.

Go for it.
