A RACH2 for Solo Piano!
on: June 26, 2005, 07:49:18 AM
I just wanna share with you this piano solo version of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto in Cm, Op.18.  It is arranged by GARY D. LLOYD - but the whole arrangement is an almost perfect transcription.  Regarding the score, it's not yet available since Mr. Lloyd is still very well and alive - he's about 56 years old now - and I knew that he transcribed the piece by mere memory playing.  Enjoy...

Very interesting, sounds great, and the composer's main ideas remain unchanged...
I wonder if he could do that to the Third Concerto... He he, a complete hell to play! :P

It's great. But it misses a bit of virtuosity... the piano part doesn't fly like in records with an orchestra, wich removes some musical values.

Someone actualy did and played a transcription for solo piano of the third. I think it was in van cliburn competition or something like that. Tough, it was the first movement only. So, it's not that bad.

I have a score of the Rach 2 for solo if anyone wants it.

Not sure if it's by Lloyd but it's not one that has been simplified.

Is it me or is the interpretation too slow? It sounded to me like a sequence more than a recording.

Add me to the list of those wanting a copy of the solo transcription.  The 2nd Mvt of this concerto in my opinion is one of the most beautiful melodies ever.  I'd love to be able to play it on my own since it's not too likely I'll have a symphony at my disposal any time soon!

Is it the same version as the recording? I'm interested in learning fragments of it.

NVM, is the score close to the recording, since the score is unavailable.

sorry, one last short post...
for those of you who have seen the music of sonata no. 1 and wonder how can it be harder than a concerto no. 3, try to play ALL the indicated "melody" notes inside and try to make sense of them, while you do that, you'll see...  if you don't bring them out "properly", the piece sounds quite empty and chaotic...

ok, i think this transcription is sh*t. it's not "FULL" enough (like horowitz's transcriptions)
besides, the recording is so bad, the most dry and unemotional recording i have ever heard
is that a computer playing it?

I would love to have a copy of that music if it is possible. I could possibly learn it for next next year....

My E-mail address is: piano_man@bigpond.com

I would really appreciate it.

Just also - Wondering if someone was asking this. Yes the recording is off of a keyboard... possibly a yamaha electronic keyboard or casio... Just plugged into a sound recorded. Isn't too bad a performance though for a keyboard.

If I can get a copy of the Sheet Music (all 3 movements if possible) I will be able to listen to it and tell you exactly if the sheet music is exact to the recording, or if there are slight changes and what they are.

For everyone's info, the recording is performed live but is still sequenced; meaning, there is merely a minimal editing/revision that had been done.

Sadly enough, I am the bearer of bad news.

The Music isn't actually Gary LLoyds Solo Version of Rachmaninoffs 2nd, it is also a simplified version of Rachmaninoffs Original 2nd Piano Concerto.

Sorry about that....

The copy I was given from (I can't remember who) was not the actual Rach 2 Solo Piano Version... It was actually a simplified version of the Rach 2 Piano Part... (which didn't include the instrumental part).

If anyone believes they have the real Rach2 Solo Piano arrangment - e-mail it to me, and I will be able to verify it. My e-mail is piano_man@bigpond.com

It's a necro but I'd like to have a copy of a solo piano transcription of Rach 2 as well :O it's on my short list as a "longer" piece I'd like to do when I have time (whereas others like La Campanella are "shorter" pieces).

I was looking for one a while back, but couldn't find a good one so was considering making my own arrangement from the concerto score, except that seemed like too much work. So far the only part I've arranged is...um...the first 8 measures  ;D

My email is at yahoo, vanshilar.
Currently working on: Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody 2 (all advice welcome!), Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, Chopin's Fantaisie Impromptu
