Apologies if this post has been done before but I've only ever seen "`hot' female pianists" posts on pf - thought i would start it to rival pbr2005's topic (which is on the repertoire board at the moment for some strange reason!)

Ever seen Vladimir Askenazy when he was young?! He was quite cute but shame about his height  :-\

Oh by the way you can include living/dead/any age pianists (but they have to be male).

I don't actually know what many pianists look like - so if anyone has got any pics (of `hot'** (?) male pianists) then feel free to post them.

**[Not sure if i like the term `hot'! - Perhaps this is more an American term? My peers and I tend to use the term `hot' when we are being sarcastic or making a joke about someone who is not in the slightest bit attractive! Usually when we are beeping the horn at them whilst driving...I know...soo immature...I don't think pianists (male or female) can be `hot', more `beautiful' perhaps or `admirable' because of the intensity and passion of their playing.]

...Plus who do you reckon was the best looking composer (perhaps paintings of composers should be included here not just photographs?)...I always thought Mahler looked quite handsome (shame about his music... :P only joking...before i get attacked by Mahler supporters... :))

yeah Ashkenazy back in the day wasn't too bad
same with Kapell, Lhevinne, Lipatti, and Zimmerman
Michelangeli looked very classy :)
and something about Cziffra.. lol

Liszt was also pretty handsome when he was young :P

There is a Italian pianist called Vittorio Bresciani who will make any girl on here swoon.

I am as straight as they come but i fancy him.

Don't know how to up load pictures here, but if you google his name you will find some.

Personally, I wouldn't call that guy attractive.  Other adjectives, like creepy and arrogant come to mind though.

vittorio bresciani.  wow!  he conducts AND plays the piano.  that's hard to beat.  (except, i'm married - and realize vittorio probably can't sing).

what i think is 'hot' is when any pianist (average, good looking, hot) walks out and is confident, plays well, and has repore with the audience.  if they are too arrogant, it is a turn off because there is no 'give and take.'  you can actually gain momentum from a good audience.  and, i think they should always strive to please every age in the audience.

i'm older than most on here, but i like andre rieu because of this.  he plays music for everyone, and tries to gain the favor of the whole audience and not just a section.  although, pianists can't try too hard to play everything without sacrificing who they are musically.  unless you are very very gifted, playing everything well is hard.

suppose that when a pianist plays well, they don't need to be 'hot' because their music is.  plus, being 'hot' makes for distraction. take for instance, my teacher.  it's very distracting when he walks out.

i think auditions would be fairer if people walked out with a bag over their head (so jury would not be overly impressed with first impressions).  two holes for eyes, two arm holes, and then feet sticking out bottom.  this would promote fairness for even the ugliest pianists.

what if a pianist was so hot that all the 'chicks' only clapped because he was good looking?  wouldn't this be a terrible dilemma.  to wonder if they are only clapping because you're 'hot.'

i still have a newspaper clipping of john browning (and he was older).  i cut it out when i was 18 or 19 and saved it.  (actually, i have a whole box of clippings - sighs).  i've got james johnson with his hands up over a bosendorfer.  and then, my french prof looking like liszt in a pic fading up into the sky.  i think before i was married, i wanted to marry a pianist.  now, am very happy with a vocalist.  he's so sweet, too.  when you have sexy and sweet together, it's nice.

used to have a huge crush on barry douglas.

you're probably right.  i don't think he married.  but, barry douglas did marry, so he's definately out of the running.  the emperor concerto would just make me fall in love with him all over again.  good thing i didn't hear (but will look and see if he's made a cd of it).  he composes his own music too!  sort of blend of classical/soft rock kinda electronic music.

when he grew up in ireland, there were no music schools there.  he had to go elsewhere.  wonder if he teaches there now?  what did it say on the back of the programme, jenni?  does he teach now (just curious ::)

Ohh i didn't buy a programme (that's the problem being a poor student!) In my final year of Uni last year, I tended to buy all my concert tickets (half price thanks to NUS card!) in advance (when i had my 1st student loan installment of the academic year) then when i ran out of money i still had concerts to look forward to. So even though some weeks I'd be living off Weetabix and water i could still go and see Barry Douglas, Stephen Hough, Joshua Bell, Vladimir Ashkenazy or whoever was playing that week because of the tickets i had bought in advance! It's funny how poor I always was at a student but still managed to go out, sometimes with only £1 lol...
