PLEASE ASAP: question
on: June 26, 2003, 10:31:08 PM
My arm muscles are sore after practicing too much yesterday  :-[  I have a recital in a few hours and I am unable to play properly.  Does anyone know how to loosen/heal my muscles quickly?

Many thanks!

How does sugar help, legatello? I've never heard of that before, I'm genuinely curious.
Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks OlderGuy, it worked great :)

Legatello, I am also curious about how the sugar helps.  Will it help immediately?  This sounds interesting...

Regarding Suger:

I don't know if and how it can help muscle problems, but NEVER eat something rich with suger just before the performence. Unless you also eat a healthy amount of carbohydrates (bread, pasta, etc.) with it.

Suger has a lot of energy in it, but it is the kind of energy that your body burns very quickly. And many times your body doesn't know when to stop consuming the energy, and you end up more exhausted than you were before eating the suger-rich snack. If this happens in the middle of a performence, you'll be in big trouble.

So if you want to try this suger-remedy thing for muscle tension, don't do it just before the performence.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
