Which fingers should I use?
on: June 29, 2005, 02:40:54 AM
Hey all.  Which fingerings should I use for the following notes located in the bass clef?  I know on the two gs I would use one and five, but how about the d and f?  Thanks in advance.  Kudos to whoever could guess which piece it's from (although, I wouldn't be surprised if that arrangement of notes were in a million and one pieces).

I was afraid you'd say that, but thanks.

Only about 987,543 pieces ;D
Anyhow, probably what Rach3 said, unless the piece is in G major or the like ;D

I've been practicing it for the last couple of minutes and it feels a little weird to me.  Sure, I could get used to it, but I think it would sound so much better and be easier on the fingers if I left the f note out.  I doubt anyone listening would even realize that the f was gone.

Oh yes they would! It's a dissonance, a dominant V7, with a major 2nd interval. If you think 5211 is awkward, try doing it it 5321, it's much worse. Hitting two notes with the thumb avoids the tension of that kind of stretch - plus you'll get used to it very quickly, the thumb is quite agile. For instance, did you know you could play a legato C scale with just your right thumb?

edit: or left thumb
