help with big chords in rach 3
on: June 30, 2005, 04:47:16 AM
Hey

I am learning the 3rd movement of rachmaninovs piano concerto no 3, and im near the end (last 10 - 20 pages) and im learning the big 4 note chords in both hands parts :) my questions are!

1.When learning these hard chords, what is the best way to practice them! are there any exercises or tips to make it any easier to learn and memorize!

2.when i play the first movement i have been told that the big chords like these in 1st movement sound loud and ear piercing (this can be because of my piano, but mostly my playing) How can i gain control over the chords and improve my accuracy, make them sound less ear piercing and loud!

thanks

thanks

I'm also interesting in hearing this advice.

hey! i'm new here in this place... and i've trying to play the rach 3 as much as i can... Well, i think the part of the big chords shouldn't be so difficult, because i've seen many video footages of pianists playing most of that part looking to the director, not to the keyboard.

Also, that was the first fragment of the 3rd mov i've tried to play... and i don't think i play it very bad  ;) ... i guess that big hands could help you... but if not, maybe trying to play it again over again can help a lot. That's what i did. IMO the trickest part is memorizing that, but with the practice, finally it becomes easy.

well, maybe right in this moment you are able to play that... :p ... well bye

You're learning the Rachmaninoff No. 3 - and you need help "memorizing chords"?

<shudders>

(not to be disparaging or anything... but this is not a piece you should be involved with... at least not when musicians are around to hear you).
